Man, woman flown to Syracuse hospital after ATV accident in town of Lyme, deputies say

WATERTOWN, NY —  The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office released the following statement on Sunday, Aug. 1, 2021.

“On July 31, 2021, at approximately 6:34 p.m. on S. Shore Rd, near Becker Lane in the Town of Lyme, an ATV rollover crash occurred. Preliminary investigation reveals the operator of the ATV, Chad Cullen, 45, of Adams, and his passenger, Amanda Proven, 38, LaFargeville were ejected from the ATV when it rolled several times causing both to suffer head injuries in the crash. Neither operator nor
passenger was wearing a helmet. Mr. Cullen and Ms. Proven were transported to SUNY Upstate Hospital, Syracuse by Lifenet and Mercy Flight helicopters due to the seriousness of their head trauma and injuries. It appears speed and failure to negotiate a curve may have been contributing factors to the crash.

The investigation is ongoing and more information will be released as it becomes available.

The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by New York State Police, Guilfoyle Ambulance, Cape Vincent Ambulance, Three Mile Bay Ambulance and Fire Department, Lifenet, and Mercy Flight medical transport helicopters.”
