CARTHAGE, NY — Mary A. West, 76, of 427 N. Washington St., Carthage, died Saturday morning, July 6, 2019, at Upstate University Hospital in Syracuse.
Born Aug. 25, 1942, in Carthage, the daughter of the late William and Elizabeth Downing Brady, she was a 1962 graduate of Carthage Central High School.
Mary worked in Syracuse until returning home to provide comfort to her parents and later raising her family.
She was united in marriage to David E. West on Nov. 3, 1974, at St. Rita’s Church in Deferiet.
Mary was devoted to her family and loved watching her daughters bowling and soccer games. She thoughtfully sent birthday wishes to those she loved. Mary loved picnics at camp, sunny days on the porch and time playing scrabble with visitors. Mary had the greenest of thumbs, nurturing house plants to bloom beautifully.
Mary’s greatest love was time spent with her grandchildren. She will be forever loved and missed.
She was a member of St. James Church.
She is survived by her husband of 45 years, David E. West of Carthage; two daughters, Rose West of Watertown and Elizabeth Stevens and son in law, Sayre Stevens of Watertown; two grandchildren, Eleanor and Benjamin Stevens of Watertown; a sister, Rose Brady of Watertown; a brother, Joe Brady of Carthage; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by two brothers, Jim and Mike Brady and three sisters, Sue Arnold, Elizabeth Barnhart and Fran Runkles.
Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Tuesday, July 9, at St. James Catholic Church,
Carthage, with Rev. Donald A. Robinson, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in St. James
Cemetery, Carthage. There will be no calling hours.
