BLACK RIVER, NY – Maxine K. Bush, 93, of 112 Wendell Lane, Black River, passed away April 22, 2019, at her home where she was under the care of her family and Hospice of Jefferson County.
The funeral service for Mrs. Bush will be 2 p.m. Friday, April 26, at the Bruce Funeral Home with the Rev. Robert L. Decker, pastor, of the St. Paul’s Catholic Church, officiating.
Calling hours will be held noon to 2 p.m. Friday, April 26, at the funeral home. Burial will follow in St. Stephens Cemetery in Croghan.
She was born on April 16, 1926 in Washburn, Maine, daughter of the late William J. Sullivan and Lena B. Holmes.
She married Arthur F. Bush of Croghan, NY, on May 26, 1945, at the Dow Field Air Force Base Catholic Church with the Rev. James T. Kilbride officiating.
The couple resided in Croghan for a short time before moving to Route 3 in Black River in January 1946. The couple built “Bush’s One Stop” a gas station and grocery store located on Route 3. It was family owned and operated from 1946 up until they retired on Sept. 9, 1981. The couple moved to Wendell Lane in 2000.
Among her survivors are a son and his wife, Arthur J. and Ginnie S. Bush, Tylerville, a daughter and her husband, Darlene K. Bush-Dishaw and Robert C. Dishaw, Black River; her siblings, Donna R. Thibodeau, Fairport, NY, Gerald R. Sullivan, Caribou, ME, Raymond A. and Wilena Sullivan, Waldoboro, ME, Melvin L. and Judy Sullivan, Woodland, ME and Barbara L. Doherty, Pensacola, FL; three grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.
A son, John Bush died at infancy in 1956, and a daughter, Rosemary A. Bush, died on December 21, 1981 and seven siblings, Eva Doherty and William L., Omar A., George F., Ronald B., Christina and Vertaline Sullivan, all passed away before her.
