Message from Indian River Central School District Superintendent Troy Decker

Dear Warrior Families, Students, Staff, and Community Members,

The holiday season is definitely upon us! It’s been a busy, albeit loud and energetic few weeks. We have also faced a wide array of weather-related challenges, and it appears that will continue into the new year. Even so, lots of fun, festive, and educational happenings are happening throughout the District. Our students performed in concerts, are playing interscholastic sports, continue to participate in various school/community activities, and, of course, are learning and growing each day in our classrooms. The spirit of giving is alive and well in all buildings, and our students are demonstrating academic growth as well as experiencing the importance of doing good things for others. December may include some long, busy days, yet the month certainly flies by!

This time of year presents a great opportunity to communicate our appreciation to all who help make Indian River Central Schools such a great place to learn, grow, work, and live. We work together to educate, inspire, and empower our students. We work collaboratively to raise children and young adults who will contribute to our community and will make a positive and lasting influence on our future, and we do so together.

The holidays can also bring challenges, and like every year, our interactions with various social service agencies, problem-solving with parents/staff, discipline hearings, and the general frustrations of a very challenging school year are on the rise. We continue to support everyone in every possible way through listening, planning, and collaborating. Patience, understanding, support, and more than a little grace are all important traits during these tough times. The trifecta of COVID, the flu, and general colds have also had some impact, but we are hanging on, and our students, staff, and programs are doing well.

While we cannot predict all that 2023 will bring, please know that we will continue to prioritize the health and safety of our students, staff, and community.  Again, thank you for the incredible support to help our students thrive during these challenging times. We value all you do each day to help us all to navigate the challenges of modern education. On behalf of the entire school district, we wish you and your family the very best throughout the holiday season, and we look forward to a successful 2023.

As a reminder, the schools of the Indian River Central School District will be closed for our Holiday Break from December 23, 2022 to January 2, 2023.  We will welcome our students back when classes resume on January 3, 2023.

Please stay safe and healthy, and be sure to share your gratitude for those around you—especially during difficult times. Please take extra care of yourself and your family with the impending weather challenges this weekend… We need to see everyone back and ready in 2023. We wish you peace, health, and happiness throughout the New Year, and of course, please remain #WarriorStrong!

With great respect and appreciation,

Mr. Decker
