Michelle Monnat appointed as CEO of Children’s Home of Jefferson County

WATERTOWN, NY — The Children’s Home of Jefferson County (CHJC) is proud to announce the appointment of Michelle L. Monnat, LMHC, as the new Chief Executive Officer, effective January 5, 2024. With a venerable career spanning over 16 years at CHJC, Ms. Monnat brings a wealth of experience, dedication, and vision to her new role as the leader of northern New York’s longest-continuously running non-profit organization.

Ms. Monnat’s journey with CHJC has been marked by progressive leadership and an unwavering commitment to the agency’s mission. Starting her career in various departments, including Residential, Non-Secure Detention, and the Community Clinic, she has gained extensive experience and a comprehensive understanding of all aspects of CHJC programming and operations. Her roles have evolved from direct service to strategic leadership, culminating in her most recent position as Chief Financial Officer. In this role, she oversaw all aspects of the Agency’s Finance Department, aligning financial operations with program services and the overall organizational strategy.

A native of Lewis County, Ms. Monnat’s educational background includes a Bachelor of Science in Psychology and a Master of Science in Mental Health Counseling from St. Lawrence University. Her academic and professional journey reflects a deep-rooted passion for mental health and child welfare, driving her to develop and lead the Therapeutic Crisis Respite Program (TCRP) and coordinate the Agency’s transition to the Neurosequential Model of Therapeutics (NMT).
