Motorcyclist leads police on chase through Evans Mills

EVANS MILLS, NY — Christopher G. Walts, 27, Philadelphia, was arrested at 11:18 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 2, on an arrest warrant following a traffic stop, according to the Black River / Evans Mills Police Department.

Police said Mr. Walts was stopped for operating a motorcycle with no tail light and speeding on N. Main Street and Schell Avenue in Evans Mills.

“Walts fled from police through the village and into the town of LeRay and ended on Beckwith Road at Route 37 where he left the roadway and entered a field and wooded area,” police wrote.

Walts was charged with unlawfully fleeing a police officer, no tail light, two counts of speeding, failure to comply, passing a flashing red light, reckless driving, unlicensed operator, third-degree aggravated unlicensed operation and second-degree aggravated unlicensed operation. Walts was arraigned in Pamelia Town Court and was sent to the Metro-Jefferson Public Safety Building with bail set at $5,000 cash.

He is ordered to appear Aug. 6 in LeRay Town Court. Police were assisted by state police and Jefferson County sheriff’s deputies.
