Neva F. Colwell, 87, Sackets Harbor

SACKETS HARBOR, NY — Neva F. Colwell, 87, Sackets Harbor, also formerly of Belleville and Daytona, passed away Friday, Aug. 10, at Pontiac Care and Rehabilitation Center, Oswego where she had been a resident since Aug. 1.

A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 18, at Carpenter Stoodley Funeral Home, 7883 Route 289, Belleville. The burial will follow the service in St. Cecilia’s Cemetery, Nohle Road, Adams. Calling hours will precede the service from noon to 2 p.m. at the funeral home.

Neva was born Feb. 12, 1931, in Belleville, NY, a daughter to Charles G. and Vera M. Downer VanBrocklin. After graduation from Union Academy Belleville she went on to attend cosmetology school in Syracuse, NY.

Neva started to work at a very young age, first for Dr. Ralph and the Machold Family in Belleville. After completing school in Syracuse she owned and operated several beauty shops in various locations and went to work for Jefferson-Lewis BOCES as a Cosmetology Teacher in 1966.

She enjoyed to go to the dog races, play miniature golf for quarters, playing cards, shopping and was an avid quilter.

She is survived by her children, Dale (Teresa), Tennessee; Rick, Mannsville; Kimberli (Ray) Massey, Sackets Harbor; 10 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren; three fur babies; and several nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents Neva was predeceased by her husband, Roderick “Cap”, 2 brothers, Charles and Richard VanBrocklin.
