WATERTOWN, NY – New York Air Brake (NYAB) today completed the second half of the previously announced decision to restructure its North American operations and shift a portion of its manufacturing, assembly, and test operations from Watertown to other NYAB locations across North America. This was a phased action we shared with the community at the close of September 2021. We extend our gratitude and best wishes to the men and women affected by this reorganization as they take the next step in their professional journey. Throughout this transition, NYAB employees have conducted themselves with dignity and professionalism, all while continuing to produce train components to meet and exceed our customer expectations.
Watertown has been the heart of our business for over 130 years. That will not change. Watertown remains the corporate headquarters and Engineering Center of Excellence for New York Air Brake, employing over 200 people in Finance, Sales & Marketing, HR, Quality, Customer Service, Engineering, Testing, Systems & Software Engineering, along with other administrative and support functions.
Throughout its history New York Air Brake has continued to evolve its overall manufacturing approach to better serve our customers and align production closer to the point of final assembly. The future of production in Watertown will continue with the new North American transit-based brake disc business. This product line enables the retention of 25 International Association of Machinists & Aerospace Workers (IAM) members as a part of Watertown’s manufacturing and will serve as a catalyst for job growth in the coming years. NYAB’s relationship with IAM Local 761 remains strong and mutually beneficial. We look forward to working together as we begin to shape our Watertown operations for the future.
New York Air Brake remains a committed and active corporate citizen in the Watertown community and Jefferson County at large.
