ALBANY, NY — New York State Police Superintendent Kevin Bruen recently wrote a letter to Assemblyman Ken Blankenbush (R,C,I-Black River) in which he detailed the state police’s latest efforts to attract recruits and how the trooper examination can be taken in early 2022. The state police have partnered with PearsonVUE to offer a computerized version of the exam, expanding access to those who wish to pursue such a career path. Individuals will have the chance to use one of the 54 testing centers throughout the state at a date and time of their convenience.
In addition to expanding accessibility, Bruen said he will be meeting with leaders across the state to better understand community needs and to promote diversity in the recruitment process.
Blankenbush encourages anyone interested to apply for the examination. “By taking the trooper examination, you open yourself up to an admirable and rewarding career. Our troopers keep our communities safe on a daily basis. The New York state police need their next generation of leaders and from my travels around the North Country and Mohawk Valley, I believe we have many strong candidates. Benefits and retirement from the state police should also be taken into consideration. The compensation package is extremely competitive,” he said.
