PHILADELPHIA, NY — Nicholas A. Zmijewski, 63, of Philadelphia passed away Wednesday, May 8, 2019, at Samaritan Medical Center.
A graveside service with military honors will be held 2 p.m. Monday, May 13, in Glenwood Cemetery, town of Watertown. A celebration of his life will follow from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Black River American Legion. There are no calling hours.
Arrangements are entrusted with Cummings Funeral Service, Inc., Watertown.
Born Jan. 11, 1956, Southington, CT, a son of Zenon A. and Jacqueline Arra Zmijewski, he was a graduate of Wolcott (CT) High School.
On July 27, 1976 he entered the US Army. He received numerous ribbons, medals, and awards. After thirteen years of service to his country, including time in Korea, Nicholas was honorably discharged as a sergeant on Aug. 24, 1989.
On Feb. 18, 1989, he married Christine A. Naccari in Philadelphia with Ken Bowers officiating.
After his discharge from the Army, Nicholas began his career on Ft. Drum, working for the Commissary in the meat department. He retired in 2014 after 25 years of service.
He was a past member of both the Philadelphia Volunteer Fire Dept. and the Watertown Gun Club.
His enjoyments included shooting and fishing.
Along with his wife, Christine, Nicholas is survived by his daughter, Dana M. McMahon, Rochester; six grandchildren; a brother and his wife, Alexander T. and Katherine Zmijewski, Dupont, WA; and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents and a brother, Edward Zmijewski.
