North Star Health Alliance announces strategic partnership with Rochester Regional Health

This affiliation marks a significant milestone in North Star Health Alliance’s financial restructuring and long-term stabilization

Ogdensburg, NY and Carthage, NY  —  North Star Health Alliance (North Star)
today announced its intent to develop a strategic partnership with Rochester Regional Health (RRH), marking a significant milestone in the organization’s efforts to restore long-term financial and operational stability while preserving access to healthcare for the North Country.

A comprehensive evaluation of potential partners was conducted in collaboration with the New York State Department of Health and guided by the Boards of Directors of North Star Health Alliance and its affiliates. Through that process, Rochester Regional Health was selected for its strong commitment to the communities they serve, which aligns with the mission of North Star Health Alliance.

“The challenges facing North Star Health Alliance required us to identify a partner capable of helping build a sustainable future for our organization,” said Andy Manzer, Interim Chief Executive Officer of North Star. “Rochester Regional Health demonstrated a clear understanding of the challenges facing rural healthcare and possesses the experience and track record to help us move forward. We look forward to working together to build a stronger, more sustainable future for the patients, employees, providers, and communities who depend on North Star.”

As a next step, North Star and Rochester Regional Health will partner on an application to the New York State Department of Health for a multi-year Safety Net Transformation Program grant to support North Star’s continued recovery and the long-term delivery of care across the region.

At the same time, the organizations will continue discussions regarding a more formal affiliation structure, with the support of the New York State Department of Health, subject to required regulatory and court approvals.

Today’s announcement does not change how North Star patients receive care. Patients should continue following their current care plans and attending appointments as scheduled.

The proposed affiliation also does not change the status of the service closures previously announced by North Star or the public hearings scheduled as part of the New York State Department of Health review process.

Additional details regarding the affiliation will be communicated as they develop.

Clarification Regarding North Star’s announcement of discussions with
Rochester Regional Health

Ogdensburg, N.Y. and Carthage, N.Y. –  North Star Health Alliance is pleased that the New York State Department of Health has announced today its preference for a partnership between North Star and Rochester Regional Health (RRH). North Star looks forward to continuing discussions with RRH to explore the details of a potential partnership and is prepared to move quickly toward building a strong relationship that supports continued quality healthcare services in the North Country.

Earlier today, in response to the State’s announcement, North Star issued a press release announcing Rochester Regional Health as the organization selected to work with North Star on its long-term restructuring efforts. That announcement was issued earlier than intended.

We recognize that this release was published before Rochester Regional Health had the opportunity to participate in a coordinated announcement, and we regret that timing. Any future relationship would be subject to appropriate due diligence and governance approvals
