WATERTOWN, N.Y. – Northern Credit Union has been named the Best Credit Union To Work For in the nation with assets from $200M-$500M. In addition, Northern was ranked fifth overall in the country. Earlier this year Northern was honored as the #1 Credit Union to work for in the small employer’s category by Best Companies to Work For in New York State.
“This accomplishment is representative of an evolved organization that genuinely reveres our employees and volunteer groups as “internal owners” and treats them as family; and in turn, is rewarded by their unsurpassed loyalty, dedication and enthusiasm for our mission, vision and core values,” said Dan St.Hilaire, President/CEO. “Viewing this contest as a prime opportunity to measure our progress, we entered it with confidence in the outcome, yet landing at the very top of the list for our asset category and number five across all credit unions in the U.S. is truly humbling.”
At Northern, employees are internal owners who each have a voice and stake in the success of the Credit Union. We are constantly seeking out new ways to serve our member-owners better.
Our goal is to ensure they are each well-positioned to live their best financial life. We are thrilled to share this recognition with our member-owners and know we exist only because they have made the choice to be an owner in this not-for-profit financial cooperative.
The Credit Union Journal has recognized outstanding credit unions for the last five years
through a partnership with Best Companies Group, an independent research firm specializing in identifying great places to work. It’s a distinctive program that evaluates and ranks the nation’s best credit unions to work for based on employee satisfaction and engagement, as well as workplace practices and policies.
Core to Northern’s beliefs is an unwavering commitment to giving back to our communities,
cultivating a people first culture, inspiring the power of ownership, and delivering on the promise of creating mutual value. In 2017, we donated nearly $75,000 to local area charitable causes and raised more than $28,000 for the Michelle Salisbury Scholarship. We also invest heavily in our employee internal-owners through great benefits including tuition assistance, a stakeholder’s program similar to profit-sharing, health care, and a generous time off package.
We believe strongly in taking care of our internal-owners, and know in turn, they will take care of our member-owners.
