NYSP: 2 deceased bodies found on second floor of Lowville house fire

LOWVILLE, NY —  On Nov. 30, 2019, at approximately 11:49 p.m., the Lowville Fire Department responded to a structure fire at 7525 South State Street in the village of Lowville. As fire personnel arrived on the scene, they immediately observed heavy fire conditions inside the residence.

The preliminary investigation has revealed, a male occupant was rescued from the front porch roof by members from the Lowville Fire Department and transported to Lewis County General Hospital with burns and smoke inhalation.

As fire personnel began a search of the residence, they located two adult bodies on the second-floor deceased, troopers said.

The New York State Police, along with the NYS Office of Fire Prevention & Control is assisting the village of Lowville Police Department with investigating the cause and origin of the fire.

An autopsy is scheduled to confirm the official cause of death of both victims and to confirm their identity.

The Lewis County Sheriff’s Office, Lewis County Emergency Management and the Lewis County Origin and Cause Team are also assisting with the investigation. The Lowville Fire Department was assisted at the scene by Martinsburg, Castorland, and New Bremen Fire Departments.

The investigation is continuing.
