NYSP: 8-year-old boy injured after being thrown from Amish buggy during crash with pickup truck

LAFARGEVILLE, NY —  On July 12, 2021, at 9:11 a.m., State Police in Alexandria Bay responded to a truck/Amish buggy injury accident on County Route 181 at the intersection with County Route 5 in the town of Orleans.

An Amish buggy, operated by Abraham S. Gingerich, age 19, from LaFargeville, NY, was traveling west on County Route 181 in the town of Orleans when it began a left turn in a southerly direction towards County Route 5, without yielding to a 2017 Ford pickup truck, operated by Dale L. Timmerman, age 28  from Redwood, NY, troopers said.

The pickup truck struck the rear of the buggy, ejecting the operator and an 8-year-old male passenger. The truck then struck a fence on County Route 181.

Gingerich declined medical attention. His passenger was transported by Thousand Islands Emergency Rescue Service to Samaritan Medical Center, Watertown, for non-life-threatening injuries

Mr. Timmerman was not injured in the crash.
