ALTONA, NY —Â On June 30, 2021, State Police arrested 62-year-old Tamra A. Murphy of Malone following an investigation at the Altona Correctional Facility in Altona.
The investigation revealed while employed as a chaplain at the Altona Correctional Facility, Murphy engaged in a sexual relationship with an inmate and provided money for him, troopers said.
Murphy was charged with one count third-degree rape, one count of third-degree criminal sexual act, seven counts second-degree introducing contraband, and 14 counts of official misconduct.
She was arraigned in Clinton County Court and released on her own recognizance.
Murphy is scheduled to return to Clinton County Court on July 15, 2021.
The case was investigated by the New York State Department of Corrections and Community Supervision (NYSDOCCS) Office of Special Investigations (OSI).
