NYSP: Man pinned, killed while trimming tree in Lorraine

LORRAINE —  On March 26, 2020, at about 7:25 p.m., State Police in Watertown responded to a report of a traumatic injury at 20219 County Route 189 in the town of Lorraine in Jefferson County.

The investigation has revealed 57-year-old Patrick D. Bates was cutting a large tree down with a chainsaw, on his property, when the tree kicked back towards Mr. Bates striking him and pinning him under the tree, troopers said.

Mr. Bates was located under the 60-foot tree and was pronounced deceased at the scene, troopers said.

State Police were assisted at the scene by Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office,  Lorraine Fire Department, Adams Fire Department, and South Jefferson Rescue.
