CLAYTON, NY —Â State Police in Alexandria Bay and Watertown are investigating a one-vehicle fatal crash that occurred on Deferno Road in the town of Clayton.
The preliminary investigation has determined, at approximately 2: 37 a.m., a 1996 Chevrolet S10 pickup truck, operated by Dakota L. Yandow, age 19, from Clayton, NY, was traveling eastbound on Grant Road when he failed to stop at the stop sign at the intersection with Deferno Road. Yandow was unable to maintain control of the vehicle, exited the right shoulder of the roadway, and struck a tree.
Yandow was found trapped in the vehicle and was subsequently pronounced deceased at the scene.
A passenger in the vehicle, Gavin N. Robinson, age 18, from Sackets Harbor, NY, was transported to River Hospital, where he was treated and released.
The investigation is continuing.
