NYSP update: Fatal motorcycle accident

WATERTOWN, NY — New York State Police released the following statement:

On July 3, 2019, State Police in Watertown investigated a motorcycle/vehicle crash that occurred on State Route 3 in the town of Watertown, Jefferson County.

The preliminary investigation has revealed, at approximately 3:15 p.m., a 2019 Harley Davidson motorcycle, operated by Jerry J. Hanlon, age 55, from Watertown, NY, was traveling west on State Route 3 when he failed to stop for the red light at the intersection of State Route 3 and Towne Center Drive.

A 2015 Chevrolet Malibu, operated by Joseph R. Wood, age 38, from Altmar, NY, was proceeding north and crossing State Route 3 when the motorcycle struck the passenger’s side of the Chevrolet Malibu.

Hanlon was ejected from the motorcycle and was transported to Samaritan Medical Center in Watertown where he was pronounced deceased.

Mr. Wood was not injured in the crash.

The investigation is continuing, troopers said.
