State police: Watertown man fired rifle at woodchuck, hit barn instead

WATERTOWN, NY —  Richard E. Daniels, 43, Watertown, NY, was charged by state police on Jan. 30, 2021, with third-degree criminal possession of a weapon, (a class D-felony) and fourth-degree criminal mischief (a class A misdemeanor).

Mr. Daniels is accused of firing a .22 caliber rifle from his residence at a woodchuck and striking a neighbors pole barn 216 feet away (within the 500 feet of a dwelling) in the town of Watertown, troopers said.

Mr. Daniels is also charged with possessing a firearm after being convicted of a felony in Florida in 2001, troopers said.
