Ogdensburg Police Department:
Today, May 25, 2022, at about 8:50 a.m. the Ogdensburg Police Department was notified of an assault that occurred at 217 Spring Street in the City of Ogdensburg.
The victim of the assault was treated for serious physical injuries at the Claxton Hepburn Medical Center.
The investigation did reveal that the victim was struck numerous times with a baseball bat on the head and arms, by the suspect party. The suspect was located later in the morning and was took into custody without incident by the New York State Police K9 Unit. There was no danger to the general public during this incident.
The suspect was in a relationship with the victim and this is a case of domestic violence.
This investigation remains on going.
Any member of the public who may have heard or seen an altercation in the early morning hours of 5/25/22 in the area between Spring Street and Oak Street are encouraged to call the Ogdensburg Police Department at 315-393-1551.
The Ogdensburg Police Department is being provided assistance by the New York State Police, the New York State Police K9 Unit, St. Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Division, Homeland Security Investigations and the St. Lawrence County District Attorney’s Office.
Ryan J. Joanette, 35, of 217 Spring St., Ogdensburg NY is being held awaiting arraignment and is charged with the following:
Attempted Murder 2nd degree Class A 2 Felony
Assault in the 1st degree Class B Felony
Robbery in the 1st degree Class B Felony
Criminal Possession of Weapon in the 3rd degree Class D Felony
Unlawful Imprisonment in the 1st degree Class E Felony
Criminal Mischief in the 4th degree Class A Misdemeanor
