Potsdam Holiday Fund seeking donations and volunteers

POTSDAM, NY  —  Each year, the Potsdam Holiday Fund helps to make the holidays happier for hundreds of families in our community who need our help.

Last year, it provided 537 children with gifts, books, and warm clothing; and distributed food baskets and vouchers to 307 families and 155 senior citizens.

The Potsdam Holiday Fund serves families and senior citizens in need in Potsdam, Madrid, Hopkinton, Nicholville, Brasher Falls, Chase Mills, Fort Jackson, West Stockholm and Winthrop, N.Y.

To do all of this, the fund partners with more than 40 local merchants who set up “giving trees,” hundreds of generous donors who contribute cash and gifts, and dozens of dedicated volunteer “elves” drawn from all across our community.

As an all-volunteer organization, the fund is proud that 96 cents of every dollar it raises goes directly to help those it serves.

It’s easy to help. You can:

– Make a donation toward the purchase of gifts, warm clothing, and food.

– Sponsor or participate in fund-raising events like the Hobble-Gobble Prediction Run/Walk on Saturday, November 23.

– Adopt a Giving Tree to display in your place of business, or select a Giving Tree tag and buy a gift for an individual child.

– Join the fund’s energetic volunteer “elves” to wrap gifts, deliver food baskets, or assist parents as they select items for their children.
