Public notice: Town of Denmark dog control

COPENHAGEN, NY — At the meeting of the Town Board of the Town of Denmark on July 15th, the board approved a dog enumeration be conducted in the town starting September 1st, 2019. The purpose is to get an accurate count of dogs within the town and assure all are properly licensed and vaccinated against rabies as per town & NYS law as follows:

A.
All dogs in the Town of Denmark must be licensed with the Town Clerk by the age of four months and are required to present a current Certificate of Rabies or a letter from a licensed veterinarian stating such vaccination would be harmful to the dog at the time of licensing or the renewal of an existing license.

B.
All dog licenses will be for a period of one year and will expire at the end of the month one year from the date of issue.

C.
Fees for licensing of dogs. The fee for a spayed or neutered dog will be $10 (which includes the assessment of a one-dollar surcharge for the purpose of carrying out animal population control), and the fee for an unspayed or unneutered dog will be $20 (which includes the assessment of a three-dollar surcharge for the purpose of carrying out animal population control), with such fees being reviewed by the Town Board periodically and may be changed by a resolution of the Town Board, if deemed necessary.

D.
Enumeration fee. When the Town Board determines the need for a dog enumeration, a fee of $10 will be assessed to all dogs found unlicensed at the time the enumeration is conducted.

During the enumeration period, representatives from the town dog control will be delivering a letter w/a form to ALL residents of the town with instructions. Please, complete the form as instructed. If you currently have a dog(s) that is unlicensed, you are encouraged to get them licensed prior to September 1st to avoid the enumeration fee.
