HENDERSON HARBOR, NY — Ric Leonard of Henderson Harbor died peacefully on Sept. 11, 2018, surrounded by family.
Ric was born June 10, 1944, in Oswego, NY, the son of Richard P Leonard and Jean (McGivney) Leonard. His working life in sales afforded him an opportunity to travel extensively throughout the country and the world.
After retiring in 2013, Ric worked for Credo Community Center for Addiction, finding a special satisfaction and fulfillment in mentoring others in need.
He was most proud of having helped start the Henderson’s Men’s Club, and volunteering steadily over the years to expand its fellowship and charitable contributions to his community.
Ric had a smile for everyone, and he never passed up an opportunity to talk – about pretty much anything. He was a lifelong, enthusiastic, and unwaveringly loyal fan of all Syracuse sports (particularly basketball), followed auto racing, and enjoyed flying, having earned a private pilot’s license. Ric was a kind and gentle soul, a friend to all, a loving family man, proud of his children and grandchildren, a favorite uncle, and definitely one of the “good guys.”
Ric was predeceased by his younger brother Mark, and is survived by his son, Sean Leonard, Sean’s wife Jen, and their children, John, James, Glenn, Brody and Reagan; his daughter, Brittan Bemis, and her children, Max and Will, and Ric is also survived by his longtime friend and companion, Donna Ross.
A funeral Mass will be held 11:30 a.m. Oct. 27 at Queen of Heaven Church in Henderson, NY, followed by a luncheon in Ric’s memory at the Henderson Fire Hall, organized by the Henderson Men’s Club, at 12:30 p.m.
Donations in Ric’s memory would be gratefully received by the Henderson Men’s Club, P.O. Box 44, Henderson Harbor, NY, 13651.
