Robert J. Genter, 80, Brownville

BROWNVILLE, NY — Robert J. “Bob” Genter, 80, Brownville, passed away Wednesday, March 27, 2019, at Summit Village, Watertown, surrounded by his loving family.

Born June 15, 1938, in Brownville, NY, a son of Henry Wood Genter, Sr. and Bertha Brenon Genter, he graduated in 1956 from Brownville High School.

He worked for Genter and Brenon, and later became an owner-operator of Genter Bros. Music and Vending. He also served in the US Army Reserves.

Bob married Mary Alice Cannan on April 8, 1961, at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Lowville, NY.

He is survived by his loving wife of nearly 58 years, his four children, Mary Beth (Kevin) Mills, Goshen, OH, Gretchen (Chris) Mayer, Prosper, TX, Robert Jr. (Kelly), Depauville, NY; and Brian (Jennifer), Rochester, NY; and three grandsons, Joshua, Elliot, and Dillon.

He was predeceased by his siblings Hank, Harriet (McAuliffe) and Charlie.

Bob was a loving, caring husband, father and papa. He enjoyed golfing, bowling and fishing in his younger years.

He was famous for many sayings – “I wouldn’t do that for just anyone, you know”, “If you can’t be good, be consistent”, and “If you get tired of walking, you can run for a while”.

Visitation for family and friends will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday, April 6, at Immaculate Conception Church, Brownville, followed by a funeral Mass at 11 a.m. with Father Michael Gaffney officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to to the Lewis County Search and Rescue, PO Box 247, Lowville, NY 13367.

The family would also like to express their gratitude to Bob’s caregivers at Summit Village.
