Ruth A. Duffany, 89, Dexter

DEXTER, NY — Ruth A. Duffany, 89, of Dexter, passed away Saturday, July 21, at the home of her granddaughter in Watertown with her family by her side.

Born Dec. 10, 1928, in Watertown, the daughter of Leland and Jane Tidd Spencer, she attended school in Long Island and moved to Dexter at the age of 18 where she graduated from Dexter High School.

Ruth married Francis C. Duffany on Nov. 10, 1947, in Dexter.  The couple lived all their married lives in Dexter.  Ruth worked at the Globe Store in Watertown and later at Barbara Moss Store in Watertown.

She was a member of the Dexter United Methodist Church, Christian Women’s’ Group, Dexter Senior Citizens, Ham Jammers and followed the Black River Fiddlers.

She is survived by her loving companion Bill Kinne, and three children: Thomas (Jeannie) Duffany of Croghan, Gail Farmer and her companion Jim Rougeux of Syracuse and Brenda Charpentier of Watertown.  Grandchildren include: Stephanie and Kevin Elliott, Cynthia Derouin and Tammy Gregory, Amy Derouin and fiancé’ Craig Geisler, David Walters, Thomas Duffany, Patrick (Joie) Duffany, Stephanie (Joseph) Nathan, Patrick (Hillary ) Shelmadine. She has several great grandchildren and nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her husband Francis and her brother Richard Spencer.

A “Celebration of Life” will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday July 25, at the 1st United Presbyterian Church of Sackets Harbor with the Rev. Melodie Long officiating.  There will be no calling hours. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery, Adams at the convenience of the family.
