SLC trails closed to ATVs

CANTON, NY —  The St Lawrence County Multi-Use Trail Committee announces that all trails are now closed to ATVs until May 15th or when trails are deemed usable after mud and frost season has passed.

The Multi-Use Trail is now open for hikers, snow shoers, and cross country skiers. Snowmobile trails opened December 15th. The committee asks all users to follow our trail reports on Facebook or at www.slcsa.org and make sure there is enough snow to support the snow machines. The trails will remain open for use by all users, again depending on snow cover, until April 1st .

The St. Lawrence County Multi-Use Trail Committee and the County snowmobile clubs strongly encourage all users of both trail systems to follow all rules and regulations to insure that we all can enjoy the activities we pursue.

All groups that are using the trail system, please remember the basics: stop when signaled by a Law

Enforcement or a Safety Patrol Officer; respect the environment (if you carry it in, carry it out); watch the weather and dress appropriately; and be prepared by carrying a first aid kit. In addition to the above, snowmobile users should have spare parts and the appropriate tools to do repairs on their machines. Also, all users should travel in a minimum group of two utilizing the “buddy system.”

Both committees want everyone to enjoy the great outdoors here in the North Country by being smart and especially safe.
