CLAYTON, NY —Â Stanley W. Matthews, 82, died Wednesday, Nov. 25, 2020, at the Pontiac Nursing Home in Oswego we he resided for over the last three years.
There will be a graveside committal service in late spring 2021 in Grindstone Island Cemetery.
Arrangements are with the T.R. Jetty Funeral Home in Clayton.
Born Jan. 7, 1938, in Clayton, a son of Perl and Rhoda Jackson Matthews, he attended Clayton Schools.
He joined the United States Army in 1961 and was honorably discharged in 1963. While in, he served overseas for over a year and a half.
Stan was self-employed as a dock builder for various river and island residents.
He was a member of the American Legion Colon Couch Post 821 in Clayton.
Stan enjoyed cooking, and mostly enjoyed helping his friends and neighbors with various projects around their homes.
Surviving is his sister-in-law, Christine Matthews of Clayton; nieces and nephews.
Two sisters, Clara Carnegie, and Carol Brown, as well as four brothers, Dick, Gary, James and Gene, all predeceased him.
