State police investigate stabbing at Saranac Middle School

SARANAC — On June 21, 2023, State Police members arrested a 12-year-old juvenile of Saranac, NY for Attempted Assault first-degree and Criminal Possession of a Weapon fourth-degree.

On June 21, 2023, at approximately 12:13 p.m., New York State Police responded to Saranac Middle School located on Picketts Corner Road in the town of Saranac for a report of a student assaulting another student. An investigation determined a 12-year-old juvenile stabbed a 13-year-old juvenile. Both the suspect and victim are students of Saranac Middle School. The victim was stabbed one time in the upper back. He was transported to CVPH, but later transported to The University of Vermont Medical Center in Burlington, VT, due to a punctured lung. The victim is in stable condition and did not sustain any life-threatening injuries.

The suspect was arrested and transported to SP Plattsburgh for processing. The suspect was issued a Family Court Appearance Ticket and released to parental custody.
