Stephen W. Heath, 76, Dexter

DEXTER, NY — Stephen W. Heath, 76, Dexter, passed away Saturday, May 11, 2019 at his home with his beloved daughter Sarah Wrae at his side and under the care of his wife Carolyn and Hospice of Jefferson County.

Calling hours are 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday, May 18, 2019, at the Airport Christian Fellowship Church, Rt 12F, Dexter, NY, followed by a 3 p.m. funeral service at the church. A celebration luncheon will be held at the church following the service.

Born June 10, 1942, in Watertown, he graduated from Watertown High in 1960 where he was a champion wrestler.

He served with the US Navy from 1960 to 1964, serving aboard a US destroyer in Cuba during the “Bay of Pigs.”

Following his honorable discharge from the Navy, he returned to Watertown and was employed at the New York Air Brake as an inspector, retiring in 1991 due to ill health.

He married Carolyn Gossage July 19, 1975, in the Church of the Redeemer Episcopal Church with Rev. Rufus Greene officiating.

Stephen was a member of the Brownville American Legion. He enjoyed NASCAR and all types of auto racing and rides around the lake and through Amish country.

Stephen is survived by his wife Carolyn, Dexter; his daughter Sarah W. Heath, Watertown; two granddaughters Annalise and Wraelee Abbate, both of Watertown; his sister Mary (Gary) Hall, Watertown; his brother Peter S. Doroha, Jr., Watertown; several nieces and nephews; three God children, Francis H. Briant III, Tammy J. Matice and Scott M. Briant.

He was predeceased by his stepfather and mother, Peter S. and Ruth Heath Doroha, his grandmother, Ida Heath, his sister Carly Jo, his best friend and “brother” Francis H. Briant II.
