SYRACUSE, NY – Syracuse will travel to Washington D.C. to take on former BIG EAST Conference foe Georgetown, on Saturday, December 11 at Capital One Arena.
Series Notes
The Orange have faced the Hoyas 96 times, making Georgetown the fifth-most familiar opponent in program history. Syracuse leads the series, 52-44.
The teams first met in 1930, when the Orange defeated the Hoyas, 40-18, in Syracuse’s Archbold Gym.
Syracuse and Georgetown squared off last season on January 9. Buddy Boeheim led the Orange to a 74-69 victory inside the Dome with 21 points.
The Hoyas compiled a 13-13 record last season. After finishing conference play with a 7-9 record, Georgetown won four games in a row at Madison Square Garden to win its first BIG EAST Tournament since 2007 and earn an automatic berth in the NCAA Tournament. Georgetown suffered a 96-73 defeat at the hands of fifth-seed Colorado in the opening round. Coach Patrick Ewing is entering his fifth year at the helm in the nation’s capital, where he owns a 62-59 record.
Syracuse was 18-10 last season and secured a spot in the NCAA Tournament. The 11th-seeded Orange upset San Diego St. and West Virginia to advance to the Sweet 16 before losing to Final Four-bound Houston.
