SUNY Canton sets spring 2020 Esports teams

CANTON, NY — Nearly 80 SUNY Canton students have joined one of the college’s eight competitive esports teams.

Students play Blizzard’s “Overwatch” and “Hearthstone;” Riot Games’ “Fortnite” and “League of Legends;” Psyonix’s “Rocket League;” Nintendo’s “Super Smash Bros. Ultimate;” and Ubisoft’s “Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege.”

This semester, the college added EA Games’ “Madden NFL 20” as part of its lineup of Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Esports teams.

Competitive matches and team practices are played in the SUNY Canton Esports Arena, a 1,800 square-foot $500,000 dedicated gaming room. It features 25 Alienware Area 51 computers, ergonomic gaming chairs and high-end peripherals. The one-of-a-kind collegiate space has dedicated console gaming stations with Sony PS4, Microsoft Xbox and Nintendo Switch units.

  • Samantha Moore of Potsdam, N.Y. (13676) is on the All-Women’s Overwatch team. Moore is a SUNY Canton Graphic and Multimedia Design major.

  • Brandon McPherson of Massena, N.Y. (13642) is on the Fortnite team. McPherson is a SUNY Canton Information Technology major.

  • Dylan R. Santiago of Bethpage, N.Y. (13654) is on the Fortnite team. Santiago is a SUNY Canton Game Design and Development major.

  • Garrett Bresett of Ogdensburg, N.Y. (13669) is on the League of Legends team. Bresett is a SUNY Canton Nursing – BS major.

  • Logan Coggins of Redwood, N.Y. (13679) is on the League of Legends team. Coggins is a SUNY Canton Technological Communications major.

  • Zachary L. Gould of Croghan, N.Y. (13327) is on the League of Legends team. Gould is a SUNY Canton Game Design and Development major.

  • Alec Knowles of Parishville, N.Y. (13672) is on the League of Legends team. Knowles is a SUNY Canton Game Design and Development major.

  • Dana Olmstead of Ogdensburg, N.Y. (13669) is on the Overwatch team. Olmstead is a SUNY Canton Veterinary Technology major.

  • Chris A. Ouellette of Russell, N.Y. (13684) is on the Overwatch team. Ouellette is a SUNY Canton Game Design and Development major.

  • Kevin C. Smith of Nicholville, N.Y. (12965) is on the Overwatch team. Smith is a SUNY Canton Engineering Science major.

  • Dillan Domagala of Lowville, N.Y. (13367) is on the Rainbow Six Siege team. Domagala is a SUNY Canton Homeland Security major.

  • Brandon Prusinowski of Lowville, N.Y. (13367) is on the Rocket League team. Prusinowski is a SUNY Canton Mechanical Engineering Tech major.

  • Kyle S. Chen of Raymondville, N.Y. (13678) is on the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate team. Chen is a SUNY Canton Game Design and Development major.

  • Nathan R. Lafary of Watertown, N.Y. (13601) is on the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate team. Lafary is a SUNY Canton Game Design and Development major.
