Syracuse Hancock Airport rebounds above pre-pandemic levels

SYRACUSE, NY –The Syracuse Regional Airport Authority (SRAA) announced today that the number of travelers using Syracuse Hancock International Airport (SYR) has officially returned to above pre-pandemic levels.

Last month, SYR saw 225,898 passengers pass through the airport. Compared to April 2019, which saw 208,244 total passengers, this April’s traffic levels represent an 8.5% increase. 2019 was the busiest year in three decades at SYR with just under 2.6 million total passengers.

“Our team, along with our partners in the airport, continue to work around the clock to accommodate our growing number of travelers,” said SRAA Executive Director Jason Terreri. “As traffic levels surge beyond pre-pandemic numbers, we strongly encourage travelers to give themselves plenty of time before their flight to not only comfortably get from the curb to their gate, but also enjoy the growing list of amenities our airport has to offer along the way.”

Local Transportation Security Administration (TSA) officials strongly urge travelers to arrive at SYR two hours prior to their scheduled departure, especially during peak hours. Peak TSA checkpoint traffic at SYR generally occurs between 4:30 am – 6:00 am, 10:00 am – 12:00 pm, and 4:00 pm – 6:00 pm. Travelers with questions about what can and cannot pass through the TSA security checkpoint are encouraged to use the agency’s popular “Ask TSA” social media accounts on Facebook and Twitter.

Drivers picking up arriving passengers are reminded that pick-ups now occur at the outer curb lines of the airport, adjacent each terminal. Please follow the color-coded signs directing motorists to the appropriate pick-up areas. The front curb line of the airport is reserved for drop offs only. To protect the safety of pedestrians and motorists, drivers are not permitted to sit and wait along the side of Col. Eileen Collins Blvd.
