WATERTOWN, NY — Thomas Floyd Strickland, 73, of 1636 State St., Watertown, died Thursday afternoon, April 9, 2020, at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Syracuse, where he had been a patient since March 11.
Born Sept. 3, 1946, in Goose Creek, SC, a son of Corrie Sue Thompson and Lewis F. Strickland, he served in the U.S. Army from 1966 to 1968 including a tour in Vietnam and was stationed at Camp Drum.
He married Penelope A. Ashwood on Aug. 19, 1967, in Watertown.
He was employed by Freeman Bus Corp., Watertown, for 19 years.
Mr. Strickland was also employed by Art’s Jug for 30+ years, where he retired from.
He loved to fish for bullheads. He also loved to sit in his front yard to enjoy the sunshine and take a nap. He liked watching football and baseball at “the club” with his buddies while enjoying a cold beer. He was an avid fan of the New York Yankees, Miami Dolphins and Syracuse Orange.
He was predeceased by his parents; a son, Thomas D. Strickland on Jan. 2, 2008; three brothers, Walter, William, and Robert Strickland; and a sister, Mildred Harmon.
Surviving are his wife, Penelope, Watertown; a daughter and son-in-law, Lisa and Ralph Grieco, Watertown; a son, Christopher M. Strickland, Watertown; six grandchildren, Ashlyn Grieco, Pennyanne Briggs, Michael Strickland, Gabriel Backus, Carley Strickland and Thomas Strickland; several great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews; four sisters, Teresa Strickland, Texas, Jeanette Williams, Tennessee, Doris Taylor, S.C., Linda Martinez, S.C.; and two brothers, Edward Strickland and James Strickland, both of S.C.
There are no services at this time. His body was cremated.
A Celebration of Life will be announced at a future date.
