Two Board of Education seats open in Watertown

WATERTOWN, NY — Petitions for Board of Education Candidates seeking placement on the ballot for the May 21,2019, election will be ready for pick up in the District Clerk’s office during regular business hours (8:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. excluding the noon hour) beginning March 25,2019.

There are two seats open on the Board of Education. One elected member will serve a l-year term filling the term of Bridgette Gates effectively immediately; the other seat is a 3-year term filling the vacancy of Jeffrey Wekar effective July 1, 2019.

Qualifications:
a. Candidates must be 18 years of age or older.
b. Candidates must be a U.S. citizen.
c. Candidates must be a New York State resident and a resident of the Watertown City School
District for at least one year.
d. Candidates shall not, at the same time, hold the office of board member or any other city office
except policeman or fireman.
e. Candidates must be qualified voters in the Watertown City School District.

Petitions bearing aminimum of 100 valid signatures must be returned no later than 5 p.m. on Wednesday, May 1,2019, to the District Clerk’s Office at 1351 Washington Street (H.T. Wiley Intermediate School).
