UPDATE: 5 injured in LeRay crash

EVANS MILLS, NY —  State Police in Watertown investigated a crash that occurred on US Route 11 in the town of LeRay.

The investigation has revealed, at approximately 6 p.m., a 2016 Jeep Compass, operated by  Dmario E. Thomas, age 20 from Hazel Crest, Illinois, was traveling northbound on US Route 11 in the town of Leray and attempted to make a left hand turn onto Interstate 781 westbound on-ramp to travel westbound.

Thomas failed to yield right of way to a 2017 Toyota pickup truck, operated by Valentin Arreola, age 38 from Schenectady, NY who was traveling southbound on U.S. Route 11, troopers said

Thomas was transported to Samaritan Medical Center via Black River Ambulance with non-life-threatening injuries, troopers said.

A passenger in the vehicle, Bailee N. Hall, age 19, was transported via Evans Mills Ambulance Upstate University Hospital.

Valentin Arreola and front-seat passenger, Robert H. Landry, age 41 were transported via Fort Drum Ambulance to Samaritan Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries. A rear-seat passenger, Peter C. Hyland, age 52 was airlifted via Lifenet to Upstate University Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Thomas was issued a traffic ticket for failing to yield the right of way, troopers said.
