Vera E. Fitzgerald, 94, Cape Vincent

CAPE VINCENT, NY – Vera E. Fitzgerald, 94, passed away on Saturday, Dec. 22, 2018, at Samaritan Keep Home, where she was a resident in Watertown, NY.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Cleveland Funeral Home, Cape Vincent, NY.

Vera was born May 23, 1924, in Cape Vincent, the daughter of Chester and Cora (Aubertine) Constance. Vera attended the local Cape Vincent schools.

Vera married Harlow J. Fitzgerald on July 14, 1942, at St. Vincent De Paul Church in Rosiere, NY with Father Kelly officiating.

Mr. and Mrs. Fitzgerald operated a farm from 1942-1959 before owning and operating the Town Tavern in Three Mile Bay, NY, and the Omar Hotel in Omar, NY.  Vera also worked as a cook for many years at the Broadway Diner in Cape Vincent, NY. Vera was also heavily involved with the Lady’s American Legion Auxillary in Cape Vincent and Church Auxillary for many years.

Vera is survived by three sons Barry (Joyce) Fitzgerald, Sebring, FL, David (Carrie) Fitzgerald, Hamlin, NY, and Scott (Jeannie), Conesus, NY. Two daughters, Janeen Garrett-May (John May), Chaumont, NY, and Kirsti (Bryan) Catlin, Waterport, NY. Two daughter-in-laws, Carolyn Fitzgerald, Henrietta, NY, and Jeannie (Fitzgerald) Comins, SC. One brother Vernon (Bud) Constance, Cape Vincent, NY. One sister Verna Mason, Cape Vincent, NY. She is also survived by 18 grandchildren, 31 great grandchildren, and 4 great great grandchildren, along with several nieces and nephews.

Along with her parents, she is predeceased by her Husband Harlow. Two sons, Daniel and Mark. A sister, Vernia Belnap. As well as a brother, Vernal Constance.

There will be a calling hour 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 27, with an 11 a.m. funeral Mass at St. Vincent of Paul Church in Cape Vincent, NY. Father Donald Robinson will be officiating with Father Ray Diesborg as Concelebrant. A burial will be held in the spring.
