LOWVILLE, NY — Veronica H. Chambers, 85, passed away Monday afternoon, April 29, 2019, at Lewis County Residential Facility where she had resided since July 2017.
Calling hours will be held 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, May 3, at Cummings Funeral Service, Inc., Watertown. A graveside service will be held 3 p.m. Saturday, May 4, in West Lowville Cemetery with Bruce Chartland presiding.
Born March 21, 1934, in Copenhagen, a daughter of Frederic and Lena Franklin Chadil, she attended local schools.
On Dec. 18, 1951, she married John C. Chambers in the parsonage of Lowville Methodist Church with Rev. Anderson officiating. He passed on Sept. 13, 2009.
She enjoyed being a homemaker, crocheting, and embroidery and was known as the “coupon queen”.
She is survived by her son, Gary R. Chambers, Copenhagen; two daughters, Rhonda J. Chambers, Copenhagen and Cindy L. (Johnny) Santiago, Central Square; two daughters-in-law, Susan K. Chambers, Theresa and Lorrie A. Chambers, Carthage; 9 grandchildren, Nichole (Mark) Hoffman, Dale (Kande) Papin, Jr., John Chambers, Krystin (Adam Powell) Chambers, David (Angie) Jones, Ed (Beth) Jones, Clayton (Donna) Chambers, Matt (Santana Knaul) Santiago, and Travis Santiago; 22 great grandchildren, and 7 great great grandchildren; sister, Myrtle Kelly and husband, Bob, Short Track, NY; 2 sisters-in-law and 1 brother-in-law, Elizabeth Bennet, Doris (Art) Haggerty, and Duane Waterman; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Along with her husband, John, Veronica was predeceased by two sons, David J. Chambers, October 9, 2009 and Bruce L. Chambers, June 12, 2010, granddaughter, Heather Chambers, June 1973, four brothers and five sisters.
