Village of Clayton to begin planning 150th celebration

CLAYTON, NY —  The Village of Clayton will turn 150 years old on April 17, 2022, and will commemorate its incorporation with a historic celebration featuring a symbolic theme relating to our community’s rich history: “150 Years–Where The Tradition Continues.”

To host an appropriate village-wide and year-long celebration, an initial advisory group has been formed and preliminary discussions held. Ideas of hosting events such as two parades; a summer and a winter parade, a fireworks display, a historic photo display, a fishing derby, a pageant, a beard growing contest, souvenirs, hosting history talks, newspaper spotlights, walking tours, an Old Home Day, and many more were discussed. We also believe bringing all regularly planned year-long activities under the 150th anniversary umbrella will help to involve the entire community.

To make this happen, and not to over burden any one person or group, we need a small army of volunteers. To determine community interest, we are inviting community members, business leaders, civic organizations, non-profit organizations and churches to a meeting on Monday, May 17th, at 5:30PM, at the Clayton Fire Station on Graves Street, Clayton. Even if you can only give a little of your time, please plan to attend and be involved in honoring what Village leaders started 150 years ago!

If you cannot physically help, but can assist with a monetary donation, please send a contribution to the Clayton Chamber of Commerce, 517 Riverside Drive, Clayton, New York 13624, and annotate the subject line for the “150th Celebration.” Online donations may also be made at www.villageofclaytons150th.com.

Additional information will be made available as it is confirmed at www.villageofclaytons150th.com  and on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/villageofclaytons150th. The momentum is building, and we hope you will join us!’
