Walczyk announces bid for state Senate

Statement from Mark Walczyk

WATERTOWN, NY —  New York State Assemblyman Mark Walczyk announced Wednesday, February 16th, that he will be running for State Senate in the newly drawn 50th Senate District.

Walczyk was first elected to the State Assembly in 2018 after beating an entrenched, ten year incumbent.  Since that time, Walczyk has been a fierce advocate for this region.  He’s pushed back against schemes cooked up by Albany Democrats, like disastrous bail reforms, gun control bills, measures to rig elections, among numerous others.  Walczyk turned his current Assembly district, which was drawn to benefit a democrat, to a deep, red district through relationship building, tireless advocacy and old-fashioned hard work.

“Senator Patty Ritchie has been a tremendous advocate for NNY and I want to thank her for her service, fighting for all of us,” said Assemblyman Mark Walczyk.

“For all of my adult life, I’ve been about public service and giving back to my community.  Whether it was serving as a member of the Watertown City Council, serving as a member of the Army Reserve and most recently, serving as a member of the New York State Assembly. Giving back is part of who I am,” said Assemblyman Mark Walczyk.

“I have a longstanding record of being a watchdog on wasteful government spending, voting against bloated state budgets and I’ve been vocal and called the Governor out, be it the current one for the former one, when they have overstepped their constitutional authority.  With the help and support of so many New Yorkers, we were able to kick the crown off the former governor’s head.  Many said it couldn’t be done or that we should just keep our head down and play nice.  I said that wasn’t an option because quite frankly, New Yorkers deserve better from their government.”

“I’m running for State Senate because the people of Jefferson, Lewis, St. Lawrence, Franklin and Herkimer Counties deserve a Senator who will work for them.  It has never been more important to stand up to Albany Democrats who are systematically destroying our state.  People are fed up with it.  So am I.  I humbly ask the people of this new Senate district for their support and together we’ll build a better tomorrow for Northern New York.”

Walczyk currently lives in the City of Watertown with his wife Jessica and their son, Atticus.  The newly drawn Senate District 50 is comprised of Jefferson, St. Lawrence, Lewis, Franklin Counties and parts of Herkimer County.
