Watertown City School District announces new director of athletics

WATERTOWN, NY – Watertown City School District is thrilled to announce the appointment of Mr. Michael Morgan as the new Director of Athletics, effective July 6, 2023.  Mr. Morgan brings a wealth of experience, a passion for athletics, and a strong commitment to student development to this important role.

Having previously served as the Assistant Principal of Case Middle School, Mr. Morgan has demonstrated exceptional leadership skills, a deep understanding of student needs, and a dedication to fostering a positive and inclusive school culture. His transition to the Director of Athletics position aligns perfectly with his background and expertise as a coach and official.

As the new Director of Athletics, Mr. Morgan will oversee and guide the district’s athletic programs, ensuring the continued growth and success of student athletes. He will collaborate with coaches, staff, and administrators to provide a comprehensive and inclusive athletic experience that promotes character development, teamwork, and a commitment to excellence.

“I am honored and excited to take on the role of Director of Athletics,” said Mr. Morgan. “I look forward to working closely with our dedicated coaches, student athletes, and families to create an environment that fosters sportsmanship, personal growth, and a lifelong love for athletics.”

Mr. Morgan is a graduate of St. Bonaventure University where he majored in Journalism and earned a Master of Business Administration while working as a student manager for the men’s basketball team. He continued his education at Grand Canyon University and Le Moyne College, earning a Master’s in Secondary Education and a CAS in Educational Leadership.

Mr. Morgan’s experience in educational leadership, combined with a passion for athletics, will contribute to the enhancement of the district’s athletic programs. He will prioritize the well-being and academic success of student athletes, ensuring that they receive the support and resources necessary to excel both on and off the field.

Superintendent Dr. Larry C. Schmiegel expressed confidence in the new appointment, stating, “Mr. Michael Morgan has demonstrated outstanding leadership and a deep passion for athletics and his ability to build strong relationships will undoubtedly make a positive impact on our athletic programs. We are excited to see Mr. Morgan thrive in this new role.”
