Watertown City School District welcomes Brianne Durham as assistant superintendent for operations and finance

WATERTOWN, NY  — The Watertown City School District is pleased to announce the appointment of Brianne Durham as the new Assistant Superintendent for Operations and Finance, effective July 8, 2024. Ms. Durham brings with her an impressive 25 years of accounting and finance experience, along with a wealth of knowledge and a strong commitment to educational excellence.

A local graduate of Jefferson Community College, Ms. Durham furthered her education with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from SUNY Oswego and earned her MBA from Columbia College. She holds active certifications as a Certified Public Accountant (CPA), School District Business Leader (SDBL), and School Finance Officer (SFO).

Ms. Durham’s career journey began at Poulsen & Podvin, CPA, where she honed her skills over fifteen years. Her auditing expertise laid a solid foundation for her pivotal role at Alexandria Central School (ACS), where she served as the Business Administrator for a decade. During her tenure at ACS, Ms. Durham played a significant role in various initiatives, including the transition to scratch-made meals, the introduction of electric buses, the establishment of a joint fueling station, and the successful completion of a $6.5 million gym expansion project.

Dr. Larry C. Schmiegel, Superintendent of Schools, expressed his enthusiasm about Ms. Durham joining the Watertown City School District, stating, “We are thrilled to welcome Brianne Durham to our leadership team. Her extensive experience and proven track record of financial stewardship and operational efficiency will be invaluable assets to our district as we continue to prioritize the needs of our students and community.”

In her new role, Ms. Durham will oversee the district’s financial operations and strategic planning initiatives, working closely with district administrators, staff, and community stakeholders to ensure fiscal responsibility and operational excellence.
