Watertown International Airport announces start of major parking lot construction

Strict Enforcement of Closures and Parking Limits

WATERTOWN, NY — Watertown International Airport (ART) is kicking off the spring construction season with the next phase of its parking lot improvement project. To ensure the safety of highway and construction crews and the timely completion of new facilities, significant parking changes and closures will begin today March 31, 2026.

Major Closure Details:

The main terminal parking area is closed to new parking, to allow for the installation of new drainage, lighting, and pavement. All vehicles currently parked there will need to be moved or relocated by May 1, 2026. Limited parking will be available on Airport property until August 2026.

Advice to Travelers:

Due to limited parking capacity during this time, the Airport administration strongly encourages all travelers to use alternative transportation—such as being dropped off by friends or family, or utilizing taxi and rideshare services (Uber/Lyft)—whenever possible for the next several months.

Important Parking Policy Update:

14-day (two-week) maximum parking limit is now in effect for all airport property. Any vehicle exceeding this limit will be towed. Additionally, any vehicle parked behind construction barricades, or in the way of construction, in CLOSED areas, will be subject to towing.

“We appreciate the community’s patience as we build a better parking experience,” said Airport Director Grant Sussey. “Following posted signage to overflow parking areas and using drop-off options is the best way to ensure a stress-free start to your trip.”
