Watertown man accused of burglarizing 91-year-old woman’s home, police say

WATERTOWN, NY —  Jeffrey R. Smith, 32, of 936 Summer St., Watertown, was charged by Watertown police at 5:01 a.m. Monday, Dec. 23, at 920 Huntington St. with second-degree burglary, a felony, possession of burglar tools, a misdemeanor, fourth-degree criminal mischief, a misdemeanor and petit larceny.

He is accused of forcibly entering and remaining in the residence of a 91-year-old woman while possessing a crow bar at about 4:54 a.m. Monday, according to court documents.

A wood door casing was damaged during the incident, according to court document.

He allegedly stole her freezer key, police said.

Mr. Smith was being held pending arraignment Monday morning in City Court.
