Watertown man accused of witness tampering after allegedly threatening to slice throats of man’s grandchildren

WATERTOWN, NY —  Shawn P. O’Leary, 48, of 502 Academy St., Apt. 1, Watertown, was charged by Watertown police at 8:29 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 29, in the 200 block of E. Lynde Street with third-degree witness tampering, a felony.

“The defendant did commit the offense of tampering with a witness in the third-degree when, knowing that the victim, James Heise, 56, is about to be called as a witness in a criminal proceeding against him, attempted to compel the victim to be absent from the proceeding by threatening to slice the throats of the victim’s grandchildren,” at about 7:41 Wednesday at Stewart’s Shop, 508 Mill St., according to court documents.

Mr. O’Leary was being held at the Metro-Jefferson Public Safety Building pending arraignment Thursday morning in City Court.
