WPD UPDATE: Pedestrian-bus fatal accident victim identified

WPD UPDATE:

“On this date, Sept. 25, 2020, at approximately 2:50 p.m., Dispatch received a report of an accident involving an Adirondack Trailways bus and a pedestrian in front of 540 State St. in our city. Members of our uniform patrol and Criminal Investigation Division, as well as Watertown Fire Department personnel responded to the scene. Upon our arrival, the female pedestrian was found deceased. The street was closed to vehicular and pedestrian traffics for a period of time to assist officers and emergency personnel with the investigation but has since been reopened. The deceased was transported to Samaritan Medical Center where a post mortem is expected to be conducted Saturday. We have identified the pedestrian, however, we are working to notify other family members. This accident remains under investigation and we will not be releasing any more information until next week.”

WATERTOWN, NY  —  The Watertown Police Department is investigating the death of a woman shortly after 2:45 p.m. Friday in the 500 block of State Street involving an Adirondack Trailways bus.

Traffic is blocked off from High to Winthrop streets. Motorists are urged to avoid the area.

City firefighters and Guilfyole Ambulance are assisting police at the scene.
