Watertown police quickly catch alleged convenience store robber

WATERTOWN, NYMatthew H.A. McMahon, 31, homeless, was charged by Watertown police at 7:34 p.m. Monday, Nov. 5, in the 200 block of W. Lynde Street with third-degree robbery, a felony, fourth-degree criminal mischief, petit larceny and second-degree harassment.

Mr. McMahon is accused of physically shoving a female clerk at LeRay Street Dairy Market, 616 LeRay St., at about 7:10 p.m. Monday and stole an undisclosed amount of cash and merchandise, according to court documents. He also allegedly broke a glass jar of merchandise during the robbery, police said.

Police quickly apprehended him the 200 block of W. Lynde Street across from Sacred Heart Church.

He was being held pending arraignment Tuesday morning in City Court.

Jefferson County sheriff’s deputies and a K9 assisted at the scene.
