Watertown Rapids sign local pitcher to strengthen bullpen

WATERTOWN, NY – As the Watertown Rapids head into the second half of their PGCBL season, field manager Mike Wood adds a local pitcher to strengthen the team’s bullpen. On Saturday, June 29th, Kalani Zehr joins the Rapids. The Lowville, NY native and rising junior at St. Lawrence University will add depth to the pitching staff.

The Rapids (10-11) head into Saturday night’s match-up versus the Geneva Red Wings coming off a road win at Newark. Zehr was a three sport athlete at Lowville Academy, roughly 40 minutes from the Alex Duffy Fairgrounds in Watertown. The 6’2″ righty pitched in 10 innings for the Saints this spring, striking out 8 and finishing the season with a 3.60 ERA.

Coach Wood is excited to add Zehr to the pitching staff and believes he’ll come on and make an impact. “We’re really excited to have Kalani join us for the remainder of the summer. He’ll be a solid addition to our bullpen” Coach Wood said about today’s signing.

When asked about joining the Rapids, Kalani said “I’m looking forward to having fun and playing some baseball. I hope to keep developing as a player and have a good time with a fresh group of players.” Zehr is also excited to play close to home, “It means a lot to play near my home town on a field I have played on before and throughout my whole life.”

The Watertown Rapids will enter July with 12 home games remaining, including a double header. Follow the Rapids on social media and visit watertown-rapids.com for exciting promotions.
