Watertown YMCA hosting 2023 New York State YMCA Gymnastics Championship

WATERTOWN, NY  – On Saturday, April 29th and Sunday, April 30th, the Watertown Family YMCA will host the 2023 New York State YMCA Gymnastics Championship. The two-day event will be held at the Jefferson Community College gym.

A total of 232 athletes, ranging in age from 6 to 18 years old, will be participating in this state level meet.

Cortland County Family YMCA, Glens Falls YMCA, GLOW YMCA, Lakewood YMCA, Oneonta Family YMCA, Saratoga Regional YMCA, and Watertown Family YMCA gymnastics programs are all represented at this championship.

The Watertown gymnastics program has been in existence for 26 years. As of 2023, there are nearly 1200 youths enrolled in the Y gymnastics program. This past year, additional classes for children ages 2-6 years were added to the Downtown YMCA Branch.

The Watertown YMCA Gymnastics program is designed to develop physical fitness while encouraging a healthy, active lifestyle. Gymnastics provides a solid foundation for all sports as it promotes development of gross & fine motor skills, strength, flexibility & body awareness.

Not only do gymnasts develop physical fitness but, they also build confidence, learn how to deal with fear, and effectively overcome obstacles.

This event is open to the public. Guest admission is $5 per person for a single-day pass and $8 per person for a two-day pass. Children 4 Years and under are free.
