WFD: Man airlifted to burn center after kitchen fire at 818 Academy St.

Situation found: Fire in 1st floor kitchen

Cause: Unattended cooking

Remarks: WFD Engine 2 (State St.) arrived to find fire in the kitchen on the first floor with heavy smoke pushing from a 2 ½ story wood frame dwelling. The fire was quickly extinguished in less than 5 minutes from time of call and fire damage was held to the room of origin. Units operated for approximately 1.5 hours checking for fire extension, ventilating smoke from the structure, and performing the investigation.

One adult male was transported to awaiting helicopter and airlifted to Upstate Burn Center in Syracuse.

WFD units were assisted by WPD, Guilfoyle Ambulance and the Watertown Codes
Department.

The building was turned back over to the building owner at the conclusion of the
incident.
