WFD: No working smoke detectors in apartment; Cause of fire under investigation

Situation Found: Fire in Apt.6B

Cause: Under Investigation

Remarks: Companies were dispatched to 414 Clay St, a 3 story wood frame apartment house with 10 units, for a fire on the 3rd floor with 4 occupants trapped. Upon arrival, smoke and flames were visible pushing out the rear of the building. Companies advanced a hoseline to the 3rd floor where they found a fire in Apartment 6B at the rear. Rescue company conducted searches for trapped occupants and had to force numerous doors on the upper floors. All searches proved negative and no occupants were found. The fire was quickly extinguished by Engine Co. 2 and fire was contained to the rear of the apartment. All damage was limited to that apartment and no other units suffered any damage and will be able to be reoccupied immediately.

WFD was assisted by Ft. Drum FD with a RIT Team, Watertown PD, City Codes,
Guilfoyle and National Grid.

The fire is under investigation at the time of this report.

There were no working smoke detectors in the fire apartment.

All WFD units cleared the scene at 1500.
